“Failure will never overtake me if my definition to succeed is strong enough”. – Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam
President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam went to his heavenly abode on Monday, July 27, 2015 while he was delivering a lecture at IIM Shillong. A teacher at heart, he passed away as he lived, his feet firmly on the ground, addressing his most favourite audience, students.
It was like a personal loss to me, it felt similar to a doting father’s demise, leaving me mid-stream. His thoughts and guidance remain etched in my mind.
The first ever visit of an Indian President to Untied Arab Emirates saw him inaugurating the Neopharma Company (Abu Dhabi’s premier pharmaceutical manufacturing company) with the blessings of Late Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, father of the nation.
Along with every Indian citizen, people of the world were also touched by his simple way of living – a life lived with Truth, Simplicity and Love. His humble nature, his passion for teaching until his last breath, his vision to see India and the entire world fully developed where there would be no poverty, no hunger, no war. He was above any caste, creed or religion.
Dr. Abdul Kalam was a great humanitarian, helping anyone that came across his path. He came to me once with a request to help his then security guard with a job, to secure a bright future for him and his family. Selfless acts like these are what I will remember most about Dr. Abdul Kalam. His religion was only giving, giving his best to the world.
We feel grateful to have been born in an era when such a sincere and inspiring man lived. We will continue to be inspired by his life and lessons, even after his noble soul ascends to the skies of bliss riding on the ‘Wings of Fire’.
May this Karam Yogi’s soul rest in eternal peace!
In grief and in admiration.
